Episode #14: We're not Worthy! (part 2 of 2)
This is the second part of the episode. Sorry it took me so long to get this out, spinning has taken over my life. We are with the Wollmeise again and she reveals some interesting details about her life. Don't want to give anything away, you just gotta listen. Ok, one teaser - did she say something about a sock club???
Also, we reveal the contest answers and who the winner is!

Episode #14: We're Not Worthy - Part 1 (Show Notes)

This is a very special 2-part episode!!! It's a very long one and poor Ms. B has to edit it. The session went for about 3 hours and so she decided that we need to break this up into two parts.
So why aren't we worthy? That's because the Goddess of yarn, the Wollmeise has graced upon us with her presence in this episode! It's a long one, so let's get started!!!
Welcome and introduction done by the Wollmeise herself in German: "Herzlich Wilkommen und herzliches Grüßgott aus München von der Wollmeise. Ich darf heute hier mit bei der 14. Ausgabe von Podcast, Knitters Uncensored, mit machen!"
Yes, finally we got the Wollmeise to come on the podcast. It was quite a task getting her on the podcast. She was so nervous that both Ms. B and Cashyie had to hold her hands. Wollmeise took some times off her extremely busy schedule to come over and podcast with us. And her English is great, don't you think?
Package from Charles was finally brought out. And the Wollmeise ended sharing the stitch markers from him with Ms. B and Cashyie! ;-)
What's on/off the needles?
- Elemm:
- Mystic Light KAL Shawl that turned into Juno Regina, which the Wollmeise suddenly claimed for herself...I was taken by surprise...but hey, what can I do apart from just bow to her wishes?
![Juno Regina [70:366, 05.04.2008]](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2392/2389086131_4d1e3664f8_m.jpg)
- Raku-Clapotis (FO):

- Opal Socks (FO):
![Opal Socks [77:366, 14.04.2008]](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2174/2413197359_777a32f26c_m.jpg)
- Icarus Shawl (FO) for my mum's birthday:

We veered off a bit here and it seems that Cashyie might be pulled into lace knitting soon. :-p
- Interlacement Tiny Toes "Canyon Lands" Toe-up (I won the yarn from a contest over at Esoteric Knitter)
- Emil-Clapotis
- Ms. B:
- Cobblestone Sweater (FO) for Rockstar-Husband
Ms. B started discussing about the fact that Germans tend to "pack up" themselves, or especially their kids in really warm clothings, so that no skins would be exposed to the coldness.
Wollmeise reckons that German mums put on too much clothes on their kids and they end up losing them. Her own kids generally come back home with only one shoe because they play boat with one of their shoe. :-p
- Firestarters and a pair of socks (FO) for her neighbour and her kid
- Several Saartjes Booties and a pair of simple socks for her son from some hand-spun by Thing4String
- Embossed Leaves socks
- Baudelaire Socks (Wollmeise complained that the socks were too small for her! LOL)
- Wollmeise:
- Regenbogen plain socks
- Pearl Shawl
- Blue-Suzanne plain socks
Cashyie ended up comparing Wollmeise to Prinzregententorte. We also found out that Wollmeise's younger son did an apprenticeship as a Pâtisserie Master at a place that sells their stuff to Dallmayr. Wollmeise then thought of Bienenstich (Wiki entry in German)..hmmmm...yummy!
Wollmeise then shared her family life with us and talked about her kids. We found out why she doesn't knit for her kids, but at the same time throwing away her husbands white socks and giving him only hand-knit socks instead. ;-)
- Cashyie is still on sock-knitting mode and she's knitting up another pair of Hobbledehoy socks! She showed us another pair of socks that she was wearing...and Wollmeise noticed that Cashyie haven't even weaved in the ends yet!
A report from me about the Handarbeits- und Hobbymesse in Cologne that I got to go to the week before with my boss from Lanaiolo. I got some Lanternmoon Rosewood DPNs to try and my review of it is that I really like them! It was the first time for me to knit with wooden needles and to my surprise, they're pretty sturdy and they feel nice in your hands. Thank you very much to Jo from Lanternmoon!
I saw my friend, Daniela from Maschenkunst. I also went to see Kelley Petkun from the Knit Pick's Podcast.
I also got to meet Miriam Tegels, the person who holds the current record in Guiness Book World of Record as the fastest knitter in the world! So, I took the chance and did a small interview with her! (CORRECTION: I said that Miriam knit English style, but now that I go and have a look at the videos again, she actually knits continental.)
Sauerlach Market, 18th-20th April, and the Wollmeise is there with her yarns! She has hardly anymore yarn though....and she still needs to get used to her new dyeing-station.
Spinning!!! I enabled Ms. B into wanting to spin her own hand-spun. And so, she got a Louet S15 lent out from the Wollmeise...plus, Ms. B has already managed to build up a fibre stash. We talked about what's special about hand-spun and got to hear the Wollmeise's take on it.
That's the end of Part 1. Keep a look out for part 2, it's coming soon!
Episode #14: We're not Worthy! (part 1 of 2)
Episode #14: We're not Worthy! (part 1 of 2)
This session was soooooo long that I had to break it up into two parts. We have a special guest today - the Wollmeise! She was kind enough to take a break from her busy schedule to sit with us and chat. We also have a short interview with Miriam Tegels - the world record holder for fastest knitter! wowowowowow!

Episode #13: Lucky Number 13! (Show Notes)
After quite a bit of an absent due to scheduling difficulties (yeah, sorry, I've got a bf and Cashyie has to work). Anyway, we're BACK!!! And we got a whooping long episode for you and a fun contest! Just a warning that we went off constantly on tangents in this episode. :-p So this means a lot of interesting readings! (Hey, I took time linking all these, so you better go read them all!)
Anyway, big thanks to Charles Lifestyle and Knitting, who sent us rolled paper stitch markers and art papers...and I was a dork and forgot to bring it to the recording.
Shout out to WonderMike and hizKnits in their podcast: YKnit! Very professional and great contents!
We went off on a whole loads of tangents here about hairpins, shawl pin, my being a crybaby, hair-clip....
Anyway, don't you think that Ms. B's kids would look great in emo? :-p
What's on/off our needles/hooks/spindles/wheels:
- Elemm:
- Firestarters (FO)
- Mystic Waters Shawl (FO - warning about the man-bikini picture...we went right off the tangent about European men and Speedos...and I'm bulge-obsessed. *LOL* *OhmygawdIcan'tbelieveIjustannouncedthattothewholewideworld* We also talked about
FFKFKK = "Freikörperkultur" and Cashyie's got a colleague who's a nudist! And he also enjoys science-fiction!)...and here's a picture of me sporting the shawl:

Elemm sporting his Mystic Waters
- 2 Saartjes Booties (I also still need to knit more the Bockstark Way! Then we went off to discuss about the perfect gift for a new baby.)

- 16 microns blue merino on mosaic paua shell from Butterfly Girl Designs
- 50 g of singles of Galway by Yarn Wench

- Cashyie has been going crazy knitting socks:
- She's got 6 pairs off the needles already! And she's knitting one with Hobbledehoy yarn! We need to get Cashyie to follow a pattern properly. Then we just went off on a tangent about Cashyie's dating....anybody interested to go with her? Coz I won't pass as a hetero. :-p
- Can you believe that she knit a pair of socks out of Noro Silk Garden (Ravelry link)?! We went on discussing about sock yarns and sock patterns (seen the Noro Kureyon Sock Yarn review on Knitty, yet?)
- She's also contemplating about knitting a sweater.
- Ms. B:
- Falling In Love Socks from MagKnits
- Birthday socks for Rockstar-Husband out of STR
- Hand-spun hat (hand-spun swapped with Cauchy09 and now Ms. B's crazy on hand-spun and is now dealing out her Wollmeise for hand-spun. Rockstar-Husband reckons that he likes spinning more than knitting....because "spinning is like Gandhi")
- She also starts knitting stockinette socks with yarns that she hasn't knit with before in order to try out new yarns. She's knitting one with Violet Green Yarn.
- Countless Saarjtes Booties (okay, okay...7 pairs! Too many ends to weave in that she ended up finding her own way to knit it in the round. You can also find it on Ravelry.)

The Yarn Wench: Galway
Spinning!!!!
As you've heard earlier in the episode, Ms. B is dreaming of having her own league of spinners, so that she can get hand-spun to knit. So, here's a Q&A about spinning between Ms. B and me (Disclaimer: I'm still a beginning spinner, so what I tell you here might not be a 100% correct and they're all based on my limited knowledge and understandings about spinning.)
- Ratios in a wheel depend on what kind of yarn you want to end up with. The higher the ratio, the more twist it can put in the yarn. You can achieve a high twist in the yarns with lower ratio, too...but you'll end up treadling your wheel like a mad man.
- Single or Double Treadles don't really make any difference. It all depends on taste and your comfort.
- Bobbins, you can actually never have enough. But I would suggest about 6 bobbins to begin with if you're considering about spinning up some singles and plying them together...which also means that you'll eventually a tensioned lazy Kate (which can also be constructed easily at home).
- Setting the twist depends on what you find easier. Some people set the twist on their singles already before plying.
- Rovings: Combed, carded, batts, tops, rovings, slivers!
- Drafting: Pre-draft, stretching out, etc.
So now the truth is out, I've been interviewed by quite bit of media about my knitting! The first one was done by Brigitte.de, then follows the Jetzt article...and then I was interviewed and went on TV with ARTE. SWR also did an interview but it hasn't aired yet...and the latest TV interview was with "La Vita" on Bayerisches Fernsehen, which will be aired on German television on 03rd April 2008, between 7-7.45 p.m.). Oh, and the magazine Glamour also just did a small interview with me and it will come out in the April issue. :-p
And with all the interviews I got, I suggested that this episode's music should be "Famous" by The Lascivious Biddies, and it is brought to you by:

Episode #12: The Catch-Up Special (Show Notes)
Hey there Uncensored Knitters!
We're baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! It's been quite a long while since our last episode....so we decided to just throw our normal format out the window for this once and just catch up with you guys on what's been happening with us.
Starting with Elemm (you know, it still feels so weird referring to myself in third person):
- I was promptly told to put away my knitting before the podcast started...but my Firestarter is finished in the mean time!
- I delivered the package sent to us from WonderMike. Thank you so much, hun!
- I finally got myself a spinning wheel! And I've been spinning up a storm ever since. I love my Kromski Minstrel and named him Valrainë. I'm not going to go into details here about the wheel type and the spinning techniques involved that I tried to talk about in the podcast. Now I just need more bobbins and a tensioned Lazy Kate. (I got a Niddy Noddy from Ms. B later on in the show.)
- We then talked about my Firestarter a bit. You can get the pattern via a direct link over at Yarnissima. Don't forget to check out her other gorgeous patterns! We also talked about my knitting tightly.
- I also knit myself a pseudo-scarf/neckwarmer out of my own hand-spun.
- We moved on to Dr. D and I expressed my little dismay over the whole discussions that ensued from the last episode. Just let it be said that I got tested, Dr. D got tested, we're fine and we're together...and I'm putting a cap on this discussion now. :-p
- I ended up disclosing personal information again about getting drunk and dancing on the table. We talked a bit about Fasching. Is there something going on about kids having to dress up as birds?
- Dr. D actually wants a striped 100% cashmere scarf from me....until he hears how expensive a 50 g ball of pure cashmere is. Maybe I should just buy the fibre and spin it up and knit for him. We'll see. ;-)
- I've also started my new job at the LYS! I work there Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you're around, come and visit me @ Lanaiolo, Grillparzerstr. 35, 81675 Munich! Just come, browse through the yarns, sit and knit with us! (There supposed to be a Knit-Night there tonight, but it's been cancelled.)
- I ranted a bit about my work at the Hostel....because I had to work over the holidays.
- She gave us our belated Christmas gifts! (With lots of squeeing from the recipients.)
- Thank you to Lauren who sent us Tofutsies; to PhotoKnitNerd for the chocolate that Ms. B actually forgot back in Hawaii; and to Knit & Play with Fire for the cool firebrigade stickers!
- She talks about her trip back home to the USA, about reverse cultural shock. How she's happy about seeing Beef Shack and things that you just don't have here in Germany.
- She started talking about LYSs in the US...only to be interrupted by Rock-Star Husband pounding meat.....not his though. :-p
- Ms. B also got to help Hazel Knits with her work and we also got some yummy yarns from her! Go and check out her shop!
- She also finished her pair of Firestarters, 3 pairs of Felted Clogs, a Clapotis; started a Print O the Wave stole and worked on her La Digitessa
- She also gave me a Niddy Noddy!
- Ditched the Mankittens who haven't been treating her so well. Happy for Climbing Wife who has got a girlfriend....and now Cashyie herself has a 3rd Grade Rebound crush. :-p
- She's also now knitting socks!
- Cashyie has also joined Ravelry (at last).
- The winner from last episode was also announced.
- She gave up on internet dating....and threw people off tracks by wearing make-up.

Episode #11: Scotch-Flavoured Condom Filled Christmas (Show Notes)
A tad late than intended. Ms. B was enjoying her vacation too much that she didn't get around editing our Christmas episode. But hey, it's Boxing Day after all...so it still counts as Christmas, eh?
Opening done by Ms. B's son. Isn't he just cute???! (Here's what I can make out of what he said: "Welcome to Knitters Uncensored episode 11 with Elemm, Cashyie and Ms. B. Merry Christmas! Tchüss!")
Cashyie tries to welcome you in German with an Italian accent. We launched right into....
What's on/off our needles?
- Cashyie:
- Off her sewing needles: 35 Advent Calendars! (Yup, she sews now! She even thrashed her sewing machine trying to fix it. She ended up having to go over to Ms. B's and use her sewing machine.)
- Sewn Faux-Tarp Plastic bag (FO)
- Another My So-Called Scarf in Alpaca (WIP. This also started the story about how Climbing Wife has fallen from grace for Ms. B.)
- Crochet Fish Christmas Tree Ornament for her Schlecker Lady ("Schlecker" is a chain of drug-store here in Germany.)
- Ms. B:
- "Striped Lily the Pink" (in the mean time almost an FO)
- 7 hats: Mission Fall Chullo hat for her kid, Rock-Star Husband and Amanda Hat and Coronet hats for her kids' Kindergarten teachers (digressions about the time when Ms. B went to Ecuador)
- Elemm:
- Mystic Waters Shawl (in the podcast, I caught up to Clue 5. In the mean time, I'm on Clue 6)
- Icarus Shawl
- Flower Basket Shawl with my own hand-spun
- Tiger's Eye Yarn (or as some of you would like it: "Tigerente")
Cashyie has Christmas presents for us! I got a some Glühwein (mulled-wine) lollies and a ball of GGH-Vision.....and we had a great laugh over Cashyie's pronunciation of the GGH-yarn! Ms. B got also grappa lollies and a hank of Trekking Hand-dyed. Rock-Star Husband gets a small bottle of "Bärenfang" mead.
Life in Germany: The Christmas Markets in Germany. Cashyie went to the Nuremberg Christmas Market. I didn't make it to any of the markets at all. Ms. B didn't either, but she went to the Home and Hand Work show.
There are several small Christkindlmärkte in a city....pretty much one in each suburb. In Munich, the tourist hub would have a Christkindlmarkt that are full of imported stuff, but not made-in-Germany stuff. We also talked a bit about Tollwood which is a kind of seasonal festival here in Munich.
Wollmeise Colourways:
- Rittersporn = delphinium, larkspur
- Veilchen = violet
- Gewitterhimmel = stormy sky
- Sultan (and OMG, Ms. B didn't know what a "Sultan" is!)
- Regenbogen = rainbow
- Raku-Regenbogen = "Raku" rainbow
Contest: Photoshop Wollmeise Yarns in some kind of funny settings and send it to us! We'll pick the winner and you'll...errr....win something, I guess. :-p
Cashyie's Freak-of-the-Week: We will now feature Cashyie's dating life over the internet...but she ended up getting some very weird "winks". Listen and have a good laugh! 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed!
Contest 2: Help Cashyie write up her headline and her internet profile! The best one will be picked by Cashyie and get a prize she got from the Christmas Market.
Sex-Ed 101 with the KU: And then they turned the conversation around to me and the fact that I was kind of off-the-market (in the mean time I'm officially off-the-market already...so you'll be hearing a lot more about my Dr. D from now on). Cashyie then started talking about "exclusivity"in regards to "Ahem"....yeah, okay, in regards to sex and whether you ask your partner prior to your first sexual intercourse whether they've been tested for "various things" yet. This sparked off a whole long discussion. Up to that point I never talked to Dr. D about this issue, because for me, it wasn't up to the *serious* point of a relationship yet. However, this is just not how we do it...or at least not how I do it.
Cashyie was absolutely appalled about my reactions to this issue. It wasn't resolved when we were recording the episode. However, for the record I need to say that it was Dr. D himself who brought up the subject (which surprised and amused me), and I would like to state here that in the mean time, I got tested and have got my negative result back (and yes, Dr. D also got tested, but he gets his results back after the New Year). I'll report more on this in the next episode. ;-)
So, what's your view on this? Do you ask your potential partner about tests? Do you ask them right early on, or when it's about to get more serious? Do you think that in doing so, is it just going too far or is it just being safe? Share your opinions with us!
Announcements: Knitters Uncensored stickers! Please contact us about this if you want some. Best way is to send us your Self-Adressed-Stamped-Envelope (SASE) and we can send it off to you (that is, if you're in Germany).

Episode #10: One Man, One Woman and One Other Woman (Show Notes)
Sorry I took forever to write up this episode's show notes. I was finishing off my last seminar paper, which has already been handed in. So now I can concentrate on
Well, what did you think about our new intro? Ms. B and Rock-Star Husband rock, eh? And for some reason, I just sounded so chirpy doing the welcome.
What's on/off our needles?
- Cashyie:
- Red My So-Called Scarf (FO)
- Another MSCS in Wolle Rödel "Arizona"
- Cashyie's own design Mittens (FO)
- Montego-Bay Treber Scarf (FO)
- Knitted Fibre Optic Lamp
- Ms. B:
- Malabrigo Hanami Stole (frogged - anyone want the yarn?)
- MariSilk Hanami Stole (FO)
- Firestarter Socks
- Secret Project
- "Stripes Moony The Pink" Baby Sweater
- Elemm:
- Mystic Waters Shawl
- Firestarter
- Secret Project (same one with Ms. B)
- Mohawk (FO)
- Koolhaas (FO - went to Minemma)
- I've got quite a bit on my spindles. Plus, I got new spindles from Butterfly Girl Designs! I've been spinning the lace-weight single...which is already done and now I'm knitting it up into the Flower Basket Shawl.
- Snicker yarn still on my Turkish Cross Spindle
Belated Happy Birthday to Mike from Socktopus (not the yarn shop)!!!
Life in Germany: What do we think is weird in Germany?
- Ms. B thinks that when they have construction going on on a building and they put a ginormous poster with the picture of the building on the scaffolding. Also, take aways, especially Chinese take aways here come in styrofoam box with sealed foil on it.
- I think that the Schwäbische Kehrwoche (German Wiki link, for English, try this one) itself is kind of funny.
- Cashyie had people moving her furnitures around when they came over to her place for a party. But she finds it sweet that Germans would go the extra mile for you.
Also Q&A from Katia & KylieMac: When do you consider yourself an expat and not a tourist?
- Ms. B feels that she feels like an expat when she first moved in to her apartment with Rock-Star Husband here in Munich.
- Apparently, I'm neither and expat nor a tourist anymore, but more like an immigrant....although I could still be booted out any time.
- Cashyie feels like a European anyway, growing up in the multicultural Canada....even in Canada, she already feels like an expat.
Wollmeise colourway names:
- Suzanne
- Pfauenauge = Peacock feather
- Tiefer See = Deep Lake
- Pfefferminz Prinz = Prince Peppermint
- Vergissmeinnicht = Forget Me Not
- Am kalten Polar = At the cold polar
- Gemütlichkeit = cosiness
- schrecklich = awful, appalling
- fürchterlich = horrible, dreadful
- übermäßig = excessive, excessively, exceedingly
- Frühstück = breakfast
- ausgezeichnet = excellent, distinguished, "kick-ass"
- What's the weather in Germany like comparing to our home countries?
- For me, coming from Thailand, we got only humidity and the three seasons we have are: Hot, Hotter and the Hottest. :-p
- For Ms. B, she used to live in Seattle, so she likes the mild temperature all year round.
- Cashyie talks about the extreme temperatures....especially the fact that you can really shock freeze your exposed skin in the matter of seconds! Scary!
- What about German food?
- I eat everything! Love all food! And someone at work asked me seriously whether I've tried the cow udders. *urgh*
- Ms. B doesn't like German food that much...especially those jelly sausages. Weird meat stuff just freaks her out....and she thinks that Germans aren't very big on veggies, it's all about meat, potatoes and bread. ;-)
- Cashyie pretty much likes everything, too.
And for Ms. B:

Episode #10: One Man, One Woman and One Other Woman
After the record delay in editing last time, I promised to edit this one quickly and up it goes the SAME DAY we recorded. That is a record as well.
Opening by Ms. B and Rock Star Husband. We're freaking hilarious!
What's on or off our needles (and spindles for Elemm)
Life in Germany - What is weird about Germany? When did we consider ourselves expats?
German Terms - Elemm deciphers more Wollmeise colors!
Laugh as Cashyie and Ms. B tries to pronounce those unpronounceable German words.

Episode #09: Someone Kissed a Girl (Show notes)
Lawdy, sorry that we're so late putting up this episode. You know, life gets in the way some time. ;-) But we're here now, let the
Katia & KylieMac, when are you guys coming to Munich?! And no, I don't ever think I'd finish my Clapotis, this led us to digress on the merit of having LOTS of WIPs and UFOs on the needles. I started scheming on getting the KnitPicks Harmony Options Needle Set.
Anyway, who do you think has kissed a girl? Yeah, it was me, Elemm, but we'll get to that. And no, I didn't kiss Cashyie or Ms. B! :-p
We also went into discussion about the Long Night of the Munich Museums, which entails a whole load of other Long-Night-Actions here in Munich...
...and promptly we digress again into talking about
Thank you so much to AuntlyH for the wonderful Yarn Cocktail book she sent us! Then we suddenly digressed into talking about rock climbing and the Flachmann (pocket flask). Also, Ms. B forbade me to knit or spin during recording.
We also got the magazine that did the interview and photo with us......and well, I like the photos, but Ms. B will only allow publication if the photo's cropped and if she's blackened out....soooooo:

The KU-Gang
All Rights Reserved!
Photo by and on courtesy of Sabine Höroldt for HP's Blue Line Magazine.
So, what's on/off our needles?
- Cashyie:
- Mitten she's making up the pattern for as she knits
- My So-Called Scarf in Wollmeise Gewitterhimmel (FO)
- Another My So-Called Scarf in a silk-merino yarn
- Cashmere Montego Bay Scarf (FO)
- Ms. B:
- Vesper Self-Striping Socks (FO)
- Vista Mare (Billy Reid Socks - FO)
- Firestarter by Yarnissima
- Hanami Stole in Malabrigo Lace-Weight
- Elemmaciltur:
- Swallowtail Shawl (FO)
- Icarus Shawl
- Mystic Waters Shawl
- Firestarter by Yarnissima
- Secret Project (FO - couldn't reveal while recording, but now, yes: it's the Mohawk socks for the November Scout's Swag Club)
Life in Germany with Ms. B or actually with all of us. What do we miss most about "home"? I was totally at a loss for the answer, but perhaps food. Cashyie misses the Canadian boys. Ms. B misses food, shopping and later opening hours, TV.
German terms with Elemm, more Wollmeise colourway names:
- Iris Sibirica = Siberian Iris
- Farn = Fern
- Wellensittichvogelfeder = Budgie's feather
- Rhabarber = Rhubarb
- Kräuterbeet = A bed of herbs
Cashyie reads her Oktoberfest Report.
Elemm went to the Vaterstetten Wool Market. I was kinda disappointed because I actually wanted to get new spindles, but there weren't any, even though on the brochure they were saying that there will be a focus on hand-spinning. I was also playing Wollmeise Groupie and I was also recognised by one listener: Hi Nicole!! The only thing that made up for the missing spindles were the rovings. :-p
Ms. B went to the Knitting & Stitching Show in London. And yes, London is expensive...not just for yarn, but for EVERYTHING! Cashyie didn't seem daunted by it at all. Ms. B also went to Stash and GetKnitted. The tube stations are also hot...and kinda nasty. She also went to the cinema.
Announcements:
- Cashyie was having a Halloween Party (came and gone already)
- Firestarter KAL
- Mystic Waters KAL (sign-up is now over, sorry!)

Episode #07: Fun Filled With Fibre Factoids! (Show Notes)
Another long episode.....but we know you LOVE it! ;-p
Cashyie officially tried to eliminate me from the show by feeding me high percentage alcohol. Believe me, this Stroh 80 thing BURNS your throat....and I couldn't talk for a bit. And promptly, we veered off to talk about Tyrolean Mankitten....
You will learn the use of made-up words by Tyrolean Mankitten. You get to learn what chillaxin' is....and why it shouldn't be transcribed directly in Catalán: Xlaxin' just got Ms. B and me laughing literally for minutes! (If you don't know, Exlax is a brand of laxative! - And no, this isn't advertisement).
Now that you know, take the poll:
A thank you goes to Dharmafey from Socks in the City Podcast for the gorgeous sock yarns for us plus the extra toe/heel yarn for me!!
We plugged Knit Therapy! Go have a listen...
What's on/off our needles?
- Ms. B:
- The first Montego Bay Scarf has fringes (thank you to Shannon from SSK Podcast!)
- And another Montego Bay Scarf
- Swallow Tail Shawl (with Marisilk from Sheepaints)
- Secret Pal 11 Projects
- Elemm:
- My So-Called Scarf (for sale)
- Icarus Shawl
- Montego Bay Scarf (aka Monte Carlo)
- Hundertwasser JayWalkers
(was commissioned, but it's going to be for me now)
- Cashyie:
- Montego Bay Scarf
- She's going to cast on for mittens
I had been neglecting my knitting totally...because I found a new hobby: Spinning! I actually started off with Ms. B. Scored off some rovings from her (which she actually got from Cauchy09). Ms. B doesn't like spinning. I, on the other hand, am totally hooked. I got some cheap wool to spin with and I also got heaps of rovings and fibre samples from Mike and KnottyNaomi!
I finished spinning up the singles during recording. Got home that evening and plied the yarn, washed and set the twist...and here's the result:
I also talked about this one sample from KnottyNaomi, which is Ingeo.
Cashyie has been conducting some secret experiments! She dyed some gorgeous yarn! First, she scored the blank yarn - not even super-wash - from Ms. B. Interestingly, Cashyie dyed the yarn with hair-dye. She even talked to us a bit about the scientific side of dyeing the yarn with hair-dye.
German terms with Elemm: I've decided to do something different. But before I could even start, we got another not-so-very-appropriate German term for you, and that is "Arschgeweih" ("Ass Antler").
Anyway, I will be translating the colourway names of the Wollmeise yarns! I won't be translating the obvious ones, but I'll include them here for the sake of completeness:
- Wollmeise = Wool tomtit
- Sonne = sun
- Campari Orange (it's a cocktail, HERE is the recipe)
- Kürbis = pumpkin
- Spice Market
- Red Hot Chili
- Uluru (click on the link, if you don't know what "Uluru" is)
- Indisch Rot = Indian red
- Dornröschen = Sleeping Beauty (lit. thorny rose)
- Wilder Mohn = Wild poppy
Also, when you move here, you need to register yourself at the citizen registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt). When you register, you need to put in your religion....and you end up with a religion tax.
Holidays aren't compensated here, if that holiday falls on a weekend.
CV in your application for a job here needs to have a photo of yourself in it. There are some discrimination at work place here that aren't spoken for openly...but it's there and believe me, I have experienced it myself. They're not rampant about it, but it's an underlying tone. Especially they would discriminate because of age. Also, it's hard for women who have children here to work, just because of the time slot of things here.
And again, we picked on Rock Star Husband. We tested him against Cashyie on their knowledge of all things about knitting. And poor Rock Stark Husband got tricked into drinking a shot of Stroh 80 before doing the quiz. (And I noticed that he was wearing cashmere socks!) Cashyie totally scored this round. ;-)
Rock Star Husband tells a story about a creepy little girl who scared him in his younger years. We'll be hearing more of his stories in later episodes!
Ms. B also talks about her Malabrigo yarns that she got....partly for the Hanami Stole that Shannon from the SSK Podcast enabled her to knit.
Announcements:
- Benediktbeuern Textile Market (22nd-23rd September 2007): We're set! For those in Germany, it seems we're all meeting up at the Hauptbahnhof to take the train together. Since you're all coming at different time, I'm suggesting that we gather our group at the Starbucks on the platforms to the southern side of the station. I'll be there from 8.30 a.m. onwards on Saturday morning (22nd). I think that we'll be taking the train that leaves at 10.32 a.m. and we should arrive in Benediktbeuern at 11.29 a.m. We will organise the returning time when we got together, since some of us might want to get back early. Really looking forward to meeting up with everybody! Anyone who just wants to join us for the day is welcome, but please let me know with ample time so that I can organise you into the group!
- Ms. B's first round of Taste of Germany went extremely well. It sold out within 3 seconds, srsly! But don't be afraid, second round will be coming up soon, and it probably will be green!
We then talk about this particular photo shoot that Cashyie just talked about. How we were supposed to pose, but not look posed. Where we were shooting...how the photo supposed to turn out (in "sunshine", while we were, in reality, freezing our asses off in drizzling rain). We're not allowed to post the photo yet though...but rest assure, it will come! ;-)

Episode #06: Jaeger...Spun Out of Control (Show Notes)

I was caught off-guard introducing myself. Anyway, I missed out on CSD, i.e. the Gay Pride, just to record for you guys! Cashyie wants me to do a wet T-Shirt contest, just because it was raining...but I've got a cold. Then I started talking about this edible knit-underwear, but opted for Jaegermeister instead, a "H"erbal liqueur.
Thank you to ScoutJ for dyeing up a special colourway for the Knitters Uncensored: "South Tyrolean Mankitten in Lederhosen"! And Ms. B talks about cost limit at custom and the strategy to get off it....we digressed and started talking about the Euro Blazer, BH ("Büstenhalter" = bra) and "Becher"= beaker. Don't get them mixed up!
What's on/off the needles?
- Ms. B:
- Montego Bay Scarf (FO)
- Started another Montego Bay Scarf
- Vista Mare aka Billy Reid Socks (she's going to submit the pattern to Knitty!)
- Secret Project (technically FO)
- Cashyie:
- Montego Bay Scarf using "South Tyrolean Mankitten in Lederhosen", see picture above (FO)
- Started another Montego Bay Scarf (Seriously! We're Montego Bay Scarf mad!)
- Frogged some of the Periodic Table swatches
- Elemm:
- Two commissioned JayWalkers, in Opal Hunderwasser and in Regia Sierra Colour
- Half a pair of Vinnland (Twin already cast on)
- Sunset in Winter Anklets (my own hand-dyed)
German Terms with Elemm (don't get these two terms mixed up!):
- Schwul = gay, homosexual
- Schwül = muggy, sticky weather
- Ciao
- Buon Giorno
- Ho bisogno di molti soldi
Cashyie watched German TV....and I revealed to her and Ms. B that some talk shows and courtroom shows don't use the real people, but they hire actors, especially the courtroom shows due to the privacy protection. I don't know what happens then, but Cashyie starts talking about going to Speed Dating and I'll probably be going with her.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Munich is supposed to be the longest running one...and apparently, they also sell packaged props to throw and the show is supposedly "tame". *LOL* Or we can go see the show in Paris and join up with Katia & Kylie Mac.
Getting back to Life in Germany, Ms. B talks about the fact that the utility costs here are included in the rent (warm or cold rent. Warm is included, cold is excluded). But some places do it differently. And you'll have to pay surplus at the end of the year if you used too much, or you get money back if you use less than you've paid. Of course, Ms. B ends up having to pay more since her place is kept at tropical temperature during the winter.
You swipe your card and your fingerprints get scanned to go and rent out a DVD at the machine. They also charge by the hour you rent the DVD for.
And then we talk about Pfand, or the deposit on cans and bottles. Turned out that our first show guest from last episode, Christine, carried that empty can of Coke from Ms. B around with her through Germany, because Ms. B told her not to throw it away, since it costs EUR 0.25! There aren't many canned beers around anymore...if any at all.
We also have a new segment, where we pick on the Non-Knitters. Our new show guest, Ms. B's Rock Star Husband!!! We will be looking for new participants to pick on in the future....so watch out, all ye non-knitters out there!
At some point during the quiz, we got around to brainstorming about writing a Whodunnit about Ravelry....we also reached the consent that the Wollmeise is THE German Indie-Dyer. And Lily Chin has the same birthday as me!!!!
How much should you ask for a hand-knit item? Since I've been commissioned with two pairs of socks, I'm at a lost about what price I should ask for. I need to earn some money, but I don't want to sound too steep by asking for too much. How much do you think a hand-knit item should cost? Leave a comment or write us an email at:
or discuss about it on our Uncensored Knitters Ravelry Group! (In some broken weak moment, Cashyie and Ms. B thought they could take advantage over my stash and buy off my beloved yarns....no way! I'm a yarn hoarder.)
Announcements:
- Benediktbeuern Textile Market (22nd-23rd September 2007): Biggest textile market in Germany. Meet the Wollmeise in person! Fondle her gorgeous yarns before making the purchase. There will be a sock-workshop with Yarnissima, the designer of Digitessa! The Knitters Uncensored Team will be there and we all will be having a PJ-Knit-Party! All places are filled already and we will start organising the details soon. So, watch out for an email in the coming week! The list of participants are:

- Yarnissima (confirmed)
- Alala (confirmed)

- Tini (confirmed)
- deknit (confirmed)

- Ms. B's Taste of Germany: The first round will be "Blue". There will be 10 places to grab (okay, 9, since Cashyie is ready to pounce on one set). This will be on the first-come-first-serve basis, so keep a look out on Ms. B's Blog for announcement...and I guess it's also going to be announced here, too. Here's the rough content of the package:
- Fingering-weight yarn (100% superwash merino) from Wollmeise
- MariSilk (light fingering) or fingering-weight yarn by Sheepaints (MariSilk or fingering-weight depending on the series)
- MariSilk (light fingering) or fingering-weight yarn by Das Schneeschaf (MariSilk or fingering-weight depending on the series)

or come and join us at our Uncensored Knitters Ravelry Group!

Hope you enjoyed our banters in this episode! Have a great week and keep knitting!!

Elemm
