Episode #05: To Dye For, Dahling (Show Notes)

I'm sorry that this episode came out late. That's why it's extra long...and we have our first show guest!! Due to the release of a certain book, I had to cancel the recording that was scheduled for last week to this week. We then digressed about talk shows and reined back to talking about the book...including the competition on Adam Knits! (already over) So, you know what book we are talking about, right? ;-) (And on my own personal side note: I so want to have THIS!) I ranted on about spoilers on the internet...and Ms. B ranted about people sneezing on her in the cinema.

Talking about cinema...we might go see The Rocky Horror Picture Show here in Munich....at least we talked about it. And I plugged the Katia & KylieMac Podcast yet again.

I also started to talk about Damknit Podcast. She's doing this survey and so you should go and DO IT! And then I did some shameless self-advertising about the interview in gave (in German) to Brigitte.de and Sueddeutsche Zeitung Jetzt...and we discussed whether knitting is only for grandmas?

Germans have to learn to knit/crochet in school (don't know whether they're still doing it now) and Ms. B got really excited because this means her boys will have to learn to knit. It's important, isn't it?! Cashyie talked about ballroom dancing at her work place and I want to learn!!!!

We digressed a bit into talking about Brooklyn Tweed's Noro Scarf.

What's on or off the needles?
  • Ms. B still pretty much has the same stuff on the needles:
  • I, Elemm also still has pretty much the same projects:
  • Cashyie:
    • Cast on for a new scarf
    • Periodic Table Knit (too good for Mankittens)
Life in Germany with Ms. B is going great. This time she talks about "living" in Germany....about how I went to the Kocherlball, whilst Cashyie didn't make it because she was under the influence....she made up for it though with chocolate. We talk about the living situation in Germany, owning vs. renting a place and the price of it all; how all rooms are separated and have doors on them. Finding a place to live in Munich and paying a fee for finding agency. (Cashyie chimes in with the description of her dodgey apartment.) Having your name on the doorbell; laundry in Germany....and "platform toilets"! (You know us, we can't steer away from toilets!)

German terms with Elemm:
  • Zephyr Jaegerspun
  • der Pullover / der Pulli = Sweater, Pullover
  • die Veste = vest
  • die Strickjacke = cardigan
  • die Jacke = jacket
  • der Pullunder = slipover
  • die Socke(n) = sock(s)
  • Highlight -->*Scheiße = shit*
  • Highlight -->*Arschloch = asshole*
Cashyie got a marriage proposal from a listener! Now she's going to do a yarn swap with him!

Ms. B and Elemm had their first dyeing experiences!! Ms. B tried it before I did. Cashyie recognises the competitive streak between me and Ms. B. And for your information, I used more or less this Kettle Dye Tutorial, you can read about it HERE.

Ms. B starts dealing yarns and other goodies. She also received this HUMONGOUS package from Cauchy09. Apart from that, Ms. B also re-started sewing again. She made these extremely cute project bags!

Ravelry group

Howdy folks! Ms. B here. For those of you who are on Ravelry, come join us in our new group "Uncensored Knitters". Tell us what you want to know about Germany or living in Germany as an expat. Tell us what words in German you want to know. Maybe I can convince Elem to teach us a few curse words! Let us know how the toilet drops are working. And start up random topics and join the fun.

For those of you not in Ravelry yet, don't worry, we'll wait for you!

And if you REALLY like us, then you're welcome to add us as friends (you know we want you to!). Our names are "BockstarkKnits" and "Elemmaciltur". Cashyie, being Cashyie, has not even heard of Ravelry and doesn't care. She's too busy knitting Treber scarves.

Episode #04: The Troubles with Treber (Show notes)

After the delay, we're back with the fourth episode! Contrasting to the last episode, this time we have some knitting contents...but we digress, since that is our specialty. ;-)

We had some technical difficulties during the recording...and this time, it's not to blamed on Elemm's drunkenness (which didn't happen), but only on Ms. B! *LOL*

Let's get on with the show!

Thank you!
Elemm had Stash Enhancing eXperience! And Cashyie was also presented with her pair of hand-knit socks! Hear her delightful squeals on the show! (We actually have pictures as evidence to this, but they all don't do Cashyie's cleavages justice. So, we decided not to include them)

As a thank you to Andy in Amsterdam, we tell you how we ended up being in Germany!

What's on (or off) our needles?
  • Cashyie
    • Noro Kureyon Basket-Weave (she's progressing!)
    • Bottle Garter Stitch Scarves (like the one on Treber in the picture above)
  • Ms. B:
    • Chevron Scarf (going in hibernation and will take a trip to the frog pond)
    • Spring Grass socks (The Little Bunny Foo Foo had been caught)
    • Zokni Socks (FO)
    • Tabi Socks (FO)
    • Vista Mare (aka Billy Reid Socks)
  • Elemm
Life in Germany with Ms. B: This kind of turned into a bit of a rant, but interesting to know anyway. ;-) Did you know that most, if not all Germans just don't know "The Sound of Music"?! Transportations in Germany - tram, trains, bus and cars. Being on the correct side when driving....or on the escalator. Tourists on bikse....*grrrrr* Speed limit on the Autobahn? Who are you kidding?

Does the term "L-cut" means anything to you? Well, now it will! Elemm shares his dating experiences and rants on about one particularly catastrophic one. We digressed again totally to toilet manners. :-p

Watch out for Ms. B's Taste of Germany! Package of yummy German Indie Dyers' yarns! It's a great deal! Keep an eye out for her updates on this!

Cashyie philosophises about the appropriate length of scarves. They should be long enough to give you a warm hug!

Elemm finally got around to talking about his photography tips (NO flash!). Here are the links to the light box construction:
And also watch out for these things:
  • Object to be photographed
  • Composition (rule of three)
  • Lighting source (filling) and the direction (no direct light on the object, be it natural or artificial)
  • Camera settings (white balance, exposure, ISO)
  • Touch-ups with an editing programme (exposure, highlight/brighten the dark areas, colours/RGB)
Announcements:

  • Email us if you want to knit Billy Reid a pair of socks! It'll be fun and if there are enough people, we'll do a proper KAL!

  • Support Annie Modesitt and her family. Make sure you go visit the We Love Annie site!

Editing's a bitch!

Howdy fellow uncensored knitters!

I (Ms. B) have the wonderful job of editing the podcast. It normally takes me about 3 - 4 hours to do it. BUT at this last recording, I didn't pay attention to what was around my computer. If something is blocking the vent, then it will overheat and just turn off. I normally am so good about making sure it has enough room to "breathe", but I think we were already drinking the Traber and well...it shut off while we were recording.

Don't worry, we didn't lose anything. What audacity does though is cut up the recording into 1MB files, which is maybe 5 seconds. And do they have a way of reimporting everything? Of course NOT! So I have to go one by one, open and paste it together. There are 230 of these files! And that's only the FIRST part! After that, I then have another 7 long ones to listen to and edit.

So, this is my formal apology for not getting episode 4 up quickly...Sorry folks!!! Oh, and one more disappointment, my sweet husband and I haven't had the time to make a new theme song this time around. Rest assured, you'll hear my horrible singing in episode 5.

Recording today!!!!

I'm saying "today" because it's 1.10 a.m. in the morning and I need to get in bed...

...just want to give you the heads-up (okay, that kinda sound wrong...can someone tell me whether that's kinda shady, please?), that we're going to record the 4th episode today!!!

So, keep a look out. The next episode is coming very soon! ;-)

Episode #04 delayed, Benediktbeuern Update

Hey Knitters!

Just want to tell you that episode #04 will be late, since Ms. B's folks are leaving today and thus she should be spending time with them. Recording will be done next week, possibly Sunday, and it's going to be pretty packed with content! ;-)

As for Benediktbeuern, this is the list at this point:

I have already reserved 5 double rooms. That's all they have for the time being. There might eventually be more available. There's also a possibility that you yourself or I could find you some other accomodation in Benediktbeuern, if there isn't any place left.

As you can see from the list, we have now six eight confirmed. That means, TWO places are readily available. We'll be going with the first-come-first-serve at the moment. So, please, confirm with us ASAP. If you really really really want to come but are too late for a space, then please contact us, and we'll see what we can do.

Because the cancellation could be done without any costs up to 8 weeks prior to the real date, I would like to just make sure. And so, please decide whether you want to come or cancel by 20th July2007!

Yours,
Elemm
